79. Golden Globes Faves

Awards season is upon us, and let me just tell you I am insanely excited about them this year. The ever-changing fashion seen at these shows is always so fun to watch.

Tina Fey & Amy PoehlerNot to mention, two of my favorite women hosting the Globes was probably the best thing that could have happened this season. Especially after just reading Tina Fey’s book I was beyond happy to see these two be paired up to host.(photo credit)

Here are some of my favorite looks from the night:

Best Neckline:

Michelle DockeryMichelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier Couture

Although I have yet to watch Downton Abbey, the star looks absolutely stunning with her 20s inspired bob and high neckline. The gold applique is just absolutely gorgeous and I love that the bottom of the gown is a simple white so all the attention is on the detailed top. Her understated accessories and lightly curled bob were a perfect combination with the drama of the gown.

Best Mermaid Style:

Jessica AlbaJessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta

Mermaid dresses were incredibly popular last night, but I got tired of seeing the same old light pink/blush/white style on star after star. Alba’s stunning orange color choice was such a refreshing change for the style. Not to mention, the draping on the bottom half of the dress is amazing, I love the different perspective it lends to the style. Her unstructured and fuzzy dark orange clutch was a perfect pairing, it’s super fun and matches well with the unstructured bottom of her dress. I also love her dazzling necklace, it gives an old Hollywood glam feel to her neckline with her retro waved, ombre hair.

Best Cut Out:

Emily BluntEmily Blunt in Michael Kors

I’m still not forgiving Emily Blunt for this happening at the Critic’s Choice Awards, while adorable it’s awkward and uncomfortable in formal attire. However, her show stopping gold embroidered cut out dress might just make up for that. The pop of color in her magenta earrings looks great to warm up her face without distracting too much from the details. The sleek bun up do was a perfect choice for the neckline of her dress.

Best Sheer:

Kerry WashingtonKerry Washington in Miu Miu

I love Kerry Washington’s edgy choice in going for a sheer gown. This rhinestone embellished gown is stunning with her skin tone and perfectly sleek bob. I love that it’s sheer but not too revealing with a skirt underneath. The nude point-toe pumps are a perfect pairing with the gown as they’re not too over the top, but I absolutely love that she chose to do blue eye shadow as her only color.

Best Ballgown:

Jennifer LawrenceJennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

This hot newcomer sure is cleaning up at the awards shows this year, already taking home a Critic’s Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy and Action Movie she also won a Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical last night. Every time I see her I am more and more impressed with her look. She chooses daring yet elegant pieces and looks amazing every time. (I think my favorite is her Prabal Gurung from the Critic’s Choice Awards) She definitely didn’t disappoint at the Globes. I love her soft curls and low chignon paired with this strapless ballgown. The color looks amazing on her and the belt creates a gorgeous silhouette.

Best Black:

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - ArrivalsSarah Hyland in Max Azria

Some people are hating on the Modern Family star’s look saying her make up was too gaudy and the neckline too low, but I absolutely love Hyland’s grown up glam look. Her bombshell curls and smokey make up look gorgeous paired with her black peplum style dress. This is definitely not a boring LBD.

Best White:

Amanda SeyfriedAmanda Seyfried in Givenchy Couture

Amanda Seyfried is just a natural beauty and she embraces that by not going too over the top with her make up or to die for hair. The simple curls look stunning paired with her brown and glitter eye make up to play up her blue eyes. White usually makes me nervous with such a pale skin tone, but she pulls it off flawlessly with the slight touches of lace and silhouette perfect for her frame.

Favorite Couple:

Affleck & GarnerBen Affleck and Jennifer Garner

A huge fan of Argo, I’m so excited to see Affleck being recognized for his amazing accomplishment. Already receiving awards at the Critic’s Choice Awards for Best Director and winning again last night for Best Director and Best Motion Picture – Drama. You could see the genuine happiness and astonishment upon his receiving all the awards which was so great. Affleck and Garner are definitely one of Hollywood’s greatest and most envious couple with a solid marriage and three adorable children. They both looked flawless last night and stood apart from the rest. They stole the show with multiple awards and Jen taking over for her hubby’s thank-yous during her part as presenter, just adorable.

Best Dressed Men:

Ryan SeacrestRyan Seacrest in Burberry

Honestly, it gets incredibly boring staring at the same black tux on every man. Men don’t have many options when it comes to formal attire for these occasions, because anything too extremely different would be super tacky. Seacrest’s dark grey and black accented Burberry look is perfectly modern and pulled together. I love the look, and it doesn’t hurt to have a gorgeous lady like Hough on your arm!

Bradley CooperBradley Cooper in Tom Ford

Bradley Cooper’s perfectly coiffed hair and flawlessly fitted black tux are a perfect combo. He is always looking extremely dapper and last night was no exception. Tom Ford is probably one of my favorite menswear designers when it comes to his perfect suiting.

Best Makeup: Nicole Richie

Worst Dressed:

Anne HathawayAnne Hathaway in Chanel Couture

While Anne Hathaway is totally rocking her pixie cut and natural beauty with make up, the dress choice was just plain awful. It looks like a bad wedding dress with the color and embellished texture. I don’t understand the two pieces, or the silhouette. She definitely could have done much better.

Jessica ChastainJessica Chastain in Calvin Klein

By far my least favorite look of the night. The color and fit of this dress are all completely wrong for this red-haired beauty. The sagging halter top is all wrong for her chest and the color makes her look washed out. I really don’t even know what is going on with her hair, while her hair is gorgeous otherwise I hate this slicked back look on her. It looks as if her hair is thinning terribly on the sides and that’s definitely not something you want to emphasize. Although she did take home an award for her role in Zero Dark Thirty – which I’m still dying to see – she did not win anything with this outfit and hair choice for the night.

Fey and Poehler were absolutely hilarious, my favorite comedic outcome from the show – Everyone Knew a Drunk Glenn Close Gif was Coming.

I hope everyone enjoys awards season! What was your favorite look from the Golden Globes?

    • Thanks, Larry! Yea..I can’t believe her stylist agreed to put her in the “sea foam green” as she requested. Definitely not her color, nor her hairstyle.
